Sohl Guitars Story
Where it Started
Who is Sohl guitars?
I’m Matthew Sohl, owner of Sohl Guitars in Harrison, Maine.
Finding the Path
I picked up my first guitar at 14 and spent years playing in local rock bands while writing my own songs. That path eventually led me from Maine to New York City, where I spent six years in the Sadowsky Guitars custom shop, building a foundation in precision luthiery and professional instrument care.
Setting the standard
During that time, I worked on instruments for artists including Earth, Wind & Fire, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Steve Miller Band, Radiohead, Lady A, and Jason Aldean. I advanced from body sanding into pre-production, focusing on truing necks, fretting, and leveling fingerboards. Learning from Master luthiers Roger Sadowsky, LEH Guitars and Valle Guitars

How it's going

Full Circle
I moved back to Maine and opened Sohl Guitars in 2022 to bring that same tour-tested level of quality back to my hometown, offering high-level repair, setup and custom guitars.
In the Workshop
This has been the result of intentional investment—in tools, equipment, and time. I’m here daily working on repairs, building custom guitars, expanding the showroom and hosting events for the local music community.
On the road
I actively work as a touring guitar tech for major artists worldwide, in venues ranging from small clubs to Madison Square Garden. I’ve toured with Black Eyed Peas, Sevendust, Static-X, P.O.D., Sleeping With Sirens, Band of Horses, and more, handling guitars, amp rigs, and stage management.

What's next?
Production Custom Builds
The next phase focuses on refinement and scale—narrowing designs, locking in materials, and improving consistency so Sohl Guitars custom builds can move into focused small-batch production, expanding access while raising overall quality and detail.
I want to build a Community Center
Sohl Guitars is a small commercial shop growing quickly, and the volume of foot traffic has reached a point where the space itself is the limiting factor.
The momentum around Sohl Guitars has created an opportunity to build something bigger than my own music shop. By leveraging the trust, visibility, and support already established,
The vision is a permanent, community-driven music and arts center devoted to learning, collaboration, performance, and creative growth. Designed to endure beyond any one individual, it will provide Maine artists a lasting place to create, connect, and thrive—open to all.
Partners to build it
To make this possible, I’m seeking financial investors and committed partners who believe in building something lasting—an institution that keeps music and art alive for generations.
If you believe in what’s happening here & share this vision, I invite you to connect.
